Become a Houston SPCA Volunteer

Calling all Houstonians that would like to help with the neglected animals of our city! Houston SPCA needs your help!

Do it big by becoming a Houston SPCA Volunteer. Don't think you have the time? All it takes is TWO hours a WEEK! You basically get to help these animals get adopted, and give them the attention and love they need! It's a lot of fun. Please read all of the information below to become a volunteer this summer!

The volunteer session will consist of an explanation of the volunteer orientation process, an overview of our history and programs, requirements for Houston SPCA volunteers, a tour of the facility and filling out the self-evaluation form and volunteer application.

Proper attire is required to participate in this orientation process and to become a Houston SPCA Volunteer. You must wear long pants and close-toed shoes in order to participate in the volunteer orientation and as a volunteer with the Houston SPCA.

NO shorts, capris, skirts, dresses, flip flops, sandals, open-toed shoes or backless shoes are permitted.

You will not be able to complete orientation if not properly dressed.

Here are the dates of the upcoming Orientation Sessions:

Saturday, May 21, 2011 from 9:00 to 11:00 am
7007 Katy Road, Houston, TX 77024
(Houston SPCA Annex Building)

Saturday, June 18, 2011 from 9:00 to 11:00 am
7007 Katy Road, Houston, TX 77024
(Houston SPCA Annex Building)

Please read more on the houstonspca.org/ site and don't forget to RSVP to volmgr@houstonspca.org/

They fill up quickly so don't wait!!

Busy on both of the sessions above? You can still be a volunteer in many ways. Opt to collect what the Houston SPCA needs off of their 'Wish List' on their website. Bring it in to the Houston SPCA because the animals are always in need of necessities!

Also, you can go to the Houston SPCA website. Choose a pet that you'd like to post to your facebook. On the dog or cat's picture there will be a 'share' link and choose to post it to your profile. You might possibly find someone to adopt that animal when they see it on your newsfeed of facebook. Make this a weekly ritual as you might find neglected animals a home!

Another thing, you can check up weekly at the Houston SPCA. Post videos or pictures of the most current cats and dogs at the SPCA! Choose a one cat & dog weekly to post to your facebook. Be careful though, one of the dogs I posted to my facebook ended up coming home with me! I couldn't resist!

If you're doing everything above and still want to do more....there are animals that need a foster home! If you're interested in being a foster parent for an animal please visit houstonspca.org/ for more info!

If you are looking to adopt please visit the Houston SPCA shelter! They have a lot of great looking cats & dogs! Looking for a farm animal? Most people don't know but the Houston SPCA has horses & donkeys too!!!!

Enjoy your visit and don't forget to RSVP to become a Houston SPCA volunteer!

Pets of the Week!

Hi there, my name is Graham. I was injured when the SPCA rescue ambulance found me and the wonderful vets here fixed me up. They did have to remove my eye but that doesn't slow me down at all. I have recovered in my wonderful foster home and am ready now for my forever home. I love to run and play, or just be loved on so please make me a part of your family and we will be best friends. Plus, I am already neutered so I can go home today!

My name is Scooter. When I first came to the Houston SPCA, I was injured but the staff fixed my leg and I recovered in a foster home. I'm using it pretty much all the time now and I'm all healed and ready to be adopted into a forever home!

I'm a happy, playful, curious, sociable boy! I still have puppy traits, so I could use some training, but I'm house broken! I would like a big fenced yard to run and play. I also must be on a lease if I'm outside of my fenced yard. I like to play with small dogs about my size but I don't know about big dogs yet.

Don't let my funny looks fool you! I have one ear up and one ear down but I'm so darn cute! Plus, I am already neutered so I can go home with you today!
