Spring Apparel | Statement Pieces

By Haili Z
What transitional statement pieces should you carry from your fall wardrobe into your spring wardrobe to get even more use out of your apparel?

Leather Apparel
This spring bold colors are key - if you have a black leather skirt, spring it up with a shirt that is bold in color to add pizzazz.
Don't wear leather on leather - add texture with a shirt that is a different material. Cotton or silk shirts added to your leather skirt will pull off the look this spring.
Whitney wears the look of the season - a leather skirt and pairs it with a lovely striped sweater topped off with an oversized bow. This look is adorable and can work both in the office and ready to wear - for dinner, or a casual meeting.

Bright and Colorful
Pair bold patterns with neutral colors. If you have a bright and colorful blouse - combine it with a sleek skirt to pull your look together.
If in the office, add minimal accessories.
If out on the town, add bold accessories.
Mayra wears a colorful, bold patterned blouse with a neutral skirt pulling the look together with a statement necklace.
This can be worn for a date night or in the office by pulling a blazer over this look.

Kourtney and Haili Wear Their Stripes Well!

The designer I purchased this from in Australia said there were only two...does that mean that Kourtney is my dress twinnie?

Behind the Seams | Mirror|Mirror

It is late August and I slowly unload all of the apparel to get ready for my first official shoot this morning. (Exciting!) My models Whitney and Ashley are early risers with me as we greet the shop owner Natalie Dawley of Two Be Wed at the door. I arrange the models and get ready to shoot my first official fashion segment for Flavor of the Week! My new business All Ze Details is literally the back bone of my styling but Flavor of the Week is the fashion column I have going for All Ze Details in which it entails how to dress, update your fashion, and how to dress up certain apparel. In which this segment of Mirror Mirror we are focusing on the consummate classic hemline. Natalie is a sweetheart and offers her space with open arms for this mornings shoot featured at Recollection Two Be Wed studio, which is lovely and vintage in every way. Brides feature their bridal photoshoots here at the studio during their 'Sitting Pretty' sessions. I don't blame them for having this as a top choice for their bridals it is absolutely darling! Which is exactly why we are shooting here today for Mirror Mirror.

Haili Pue & Rebecca Spera of Mirror Mirror

Rebecca Spera arrives in which this will be the first time that I have offcially met her although we have always brushed elbows at the same events. This will be fun to work with her! She is so charismatic and bubbly in the morning it's hard not to rub off of her energy!

This is a fantastic piece as there are several ways, as mentioned in the segment, to get this look! How to dress it up, rock it out, touch base with your ultra feminine side - it all really is classicly chic with the consummate hemline!

Here is a Flavor of the Week 'Behind the Seams' look at the segment:

Mirror | Mirror Fashion Segment | Behind the Seams

'Behind the Seams' with Haili Pue on Live Well Network's Mirror Mirror!
Below, is the feature from Mirror Mirror's website

Ladies, the consummate classic is back. This season, we're seeing longer, more feminine hemlines.

Fashion columnist Haili Pue says the look that's drawing the most attention right now is the form-fitting pencil skirt and dress.

"A lot of women have been waiting for long skirts to come back in style, and this season is definitely for them" she says.

Below is Haili's guide to the hottest hems:

Form-Fitting Dress/Skirt:
When it comes to form fitting dresses and skirts, choose the length by your body type.

Ankle Length:
Skirts that are ankle length look great on taller people. Those with a petite frame should wear it with a higher waist and a higher heel.
High-Waisted:
The best figures for high-waisted skirts are petite or tall and thin. High-waisted skirts can also work if you have a pear shape.
A-Line:
If you want to pull attention to the waist line, a-line skirts and dresses are the perfect choice. Athletic, petite and hourglass figures all look great in an a-line.

Cinched/High Waist:
Dresses that are cinched and high waisted that hit right below the knee are great for creating curves. This look works great if you have an hourglass or petite shape.

Pleats:
Kate Middleton wore her accordion skirt to LA and you should wear yours, too. However, if you're self conscious about your bottom half, avoid this look because of the structure of the skirt.

Make Long Casual:
If you're going to wear an ankle length skirt, make sure the waist is cinched so it gives you somewhat of a figure. This look is great for petites. If you are petite though, make sure the hemline isn't hitting your ankles or the floor. Make sure it's a little higher up so it doesn't overpower your body.

High/Low Cut:
High/low cut is when the hem is a little higher in the middle and lower on the sides. This is a great look for every body type.

Rock It:
If ultra ladylike isn't in your fashion forecast, go rocker! Try a black maxi with a leather jacket. Finish the look with a leather belt and you're on your way!
Be Eclectic:
For a more eclectic look, try a long-sleeved maxi dress with a floral pattern. Add some bangles to create a fun, casual look.

Whether your style is feminine, edgy, or artsy, go to great lengths this season, and you'll always be in style!
