Great Day Houston! What a wonderful morning with the cast of West Side Story , Dr. LeConey of The Institute of Anti-Aging and Skin Spa, cookin' healthy with Jon Ashton, sraightening up with the AccuraScope, and a taste of Houston's Monster Jam!
It is my first time on the set of Great Day Houston. My first time in the studio of Houston's local channel 11 for that matter. I have been in the studio years ago for High School cheerleading when we won the national championship in Florida. But I'm hear for a different reason. I am not here to be congratulated or interviewed as a national champion, I am here to find a career. To learn the ins and outs of the industry. Discover it behind the scenes. The best way? To be in the live studio audience. So I contacted a few people and came across tickets for the show. I am stoked. I know what many of you are thinking - there's nothing much in Houston. I see it as the perfect opportunity. Somewhere to start. Something to look forward to. I am here and I am extremely excited.
So my friend and I take a seat. We are the only two not in a group of 15-20 members. We are not here to represent anything or any organization just here to enjoy the morning. A morning that has already started off so great for me. Everything fell into place. I received tickets and my best friend was available to go. Not common since everyone works during the week. So it all falls into place.
We get to take it all in as the producer tells us a little bit about the show, what we'll be seeing on the show this morning, when we are supposed to applaud and when we are to sit still and not make a peep. Easy enough. We receive prizes including tickets to the latest happenings in Houston - West Side Story, Monster Jam, etc. This is great!
Deborah Duncan walks around the corner and although we are supposed to be quiet at this moment everyone's holding on to the edge of their seats. You hear little screams and girls wave to her as she takes her spot for Great Day Houston to start for this morning of Jan 20. We've got a few doctors in here to discuss facial and spine treatments. A chef to throw together a tasty dip for upcoming superbowl parties, and someone to show us how to plant a tree for Arbor Day.
It is completely different than you see on TV. A lot goes on in here to get the job done. Will the subtitles show up correctly with the speaker's name? Will everything go according to planned? It did this morning and if there were any glitches we didn't notice. It ran smoothly and went great.
After the show we are asked to stay to take pictures for the GDH online gallery. I am excited to speak with Deborah to ask her a few questions. Of course, we are the last ones to leave. This was a great morning. Seeing that I am extremely influenced by Deborah Duncan and Mia Gradney to name a few..THIS is my dream job here and I hope to achieve that. But for now, enjoy my first post for Great Day Houston and enjoy the many pictures and videos below from today's great morning! Hopefully the first of many!

Also for Arbor Day, plant a tree!! This time of year is actually the perfect time to plant one! Watch how to plant a tree here:
I met up with CW 39's Mia Gradney today, this time at Hemline in Rice Village. I had the privelege of being asked to come back and model for Mia's Style Files again. I had a great time with Mia & the crew!
Mia always has a great knack for scoping out these cute little boutiques!
I quickly fell in love with Hemline's array of white apparel and their Chinese Laundry nude shoes!
When I first arrived at Hemline their earring rack caught my eye. Their earrings are displayed on a chandilier that hangs in a corner & also on hollow frames adorned with chicken wire (the earrings hang from the chicken wire). Such a cute idea and a great little display that caught my eye...I always pay attention to detail!
While Mia chose outfits and played around with different outfits to feature I scoped out the store. Hemline also carries Kai, which I am familiar with since I'm obsessed with the perfume! Kai is amazing(they also carry body spray, body butter, & lotion). It has a very clean, floral scent to it. Creator, Gaye Straza, created a scent that "embodied the exotic white flowers she loved." -www.kaifragrance.com/history.html You can order and or check out Kai on their website www.kaifragrance.com. If you're a hands on kind of person and want to check it out and smell it..try Abejas Boutique, Hemline, Spa Nordstrom, Kuhl-Linscomb, Barney's New York Co-op Houston, Olivine, & Kai Spa. (All locations in Houston) Don't live in Houston? Simply type your zip code in on the website to smell the goodness closest to you! http://www.kaifragrance.com/shop.html
Okay, so now where were we?
So, we start trying on shoes & I fall in love with the skin tone Chinese Laundry lace ups at Hemline! Oh la la...another summer must besides white apparel..skin toned shoes!
We shot different apparel including some great white apparel and a few pairs of shoes that I am now in love with. Check out the video & behind the scenes pictures below. Enjoy & be sure to check out this week's fashion favorite from Mia - every Monday at 5PM & again at 9 PM on Houston's local channel 5, CW 39!
Any girl would be quick to venture into Abejas, a Houston owned and operated boutique. Nestled right in between Highway 59 and Reliant Stadium on Kirby. This cozy boutique is full of unique finds from belts to 'Ketohs', a name for an amazing and unique cuff that you wear as a bracelet.
Owner Christina Nicodemus, opened the boutique in 1996.
I had the privilege of modeling on Mia's Style Files once again at Abejas this morning for a Rodeo Chic segment. I met with Ryan Bell, one of the Abeja's girls at 10 AM sharp to dress in the apparel that I modeled today. I was greeted with a warm smile and overcome by her excitement to get me in the dressing room to start trying on the apparel she had put together. Everything was just lovely! From the shabby chic feel to the store to the hand made totes from Argentina this place definitely had a unique feel to it and a rodeo chic appeal.
As Mia & Shannon filmed the segment I had the opportunity to play around with pieces and try on apparel once again to decide on my favorites - which was the 'Abejas Pleated Duster' and the neutral loose top (which is in the video below, with the metallic necklace). These pieces can be worn year round, not only for rodeo but over a tank & jeans for the spring and for the summer over a bathing suit with cute wedges or flip-flops. I am in love with all of Abejas' apparel. It's easy to get swept away in this store but I must stick to my favorites, which is a hard thing to do when you like just about everything!
If you're in a rush for rodeo apparel Abejas is located on Kirby a few minutes up from Reliant. Coming from 45 head directly up Kirby Reliant Stadium will be on your right & Abejas will be located on the left (right after Azuma). If you're coming from 59 turning right or left onto Kirby you will pass Goode Company Taqueria (on your right) & Goode Company Bar-B-Que on your left...keep on goin...you'll see Abejas directly to your right in a shopping center with Area (furniture store) and Chipotle. Hope that helps you guys! Swing by after work before you head out to the rodeo to see your favorite artist play. You'll look good & feel good in your new rodeo chic wear! Enjoy!
