Tryout 2012 | Uniform Tips

Every year for the Houston Texans Cheerleader Tryouts uniforms should be fresh that inevitably stand out. Fashion grows every year bringing on new trends that your uniform should reflect as well as adding flare to show your personality.

This years trends are stripes, polka dots, and the high low shifts on dresses. Very few stripes and polka dots were spotted at tryouts this year. Color is a big trend SS12. Although this is the case there is always a ton of color at tryouts but the colors of SS12 weren't spotted; neons, greens, oranges, and yellows as in color block solids. Uniforms were segments and portions of two to three colors and patterns divided into HTC hopefuls tops and bottoms.

My uniform this year coincided between polka dots and anemone flowers. Being into fashion and planning weddings inspired the fabric I chose.

An Insider Look to Houston Texan Cheerleader Tryouts 2011

"The first round of the 2011 Texans Cheerleader Tryouts presented by Miller Lite are complete. After three hours of dance competition, 624 hopefuls have been cut down to a group of 273. The remaining group will compete tomorrow in rounds two and three, after which there’ll be 50 finalists vying for about 35 spots." - houstontexans.com

Before tryouts contestants were able to purchase Houston Texan Cheerleader apparel and memorabilia made just for tryouts. After gathering their new merchandise, contestants hit the red carpet and headed to the side of the practice field where they made themselves comfortable on blankets and towels anxiously awaiting Round 1 of 2011's tryouts. Girls touched up their make-up, re-curled their loose ends, & applied lip gloss to add the final touch of sass before hitting the floor.

The first day of tryouts consisted of Round 1 & Show Troop Auditions. Round 1 ended about 10 PM & Show Troop Auditions began. With 2011 being the first year of the Houston Texan Cheerleaders having a Show Troop hopefuls showed up with guitars, batons, karate equipment, & mics in hand. A talented group of about 60 tried out for a spot on the Show Troop. The girls were given 30 seconds to present their talent. Much like an American Idol audition, and just as nerve wracking, each of the contestants were cut off when their time was up - whether their song, joke, or routine was complete or not they would have to quit in mid note, kick, or sentence. The Show Troop girls were chosen by the end of the night and handed a packet if they were chosen to begin as the first Show Troop for the Houston Texan Cheerleaders.

The second day of tryouts began with 273 hopefuls in beginning Round 2. The girls took their place on the practice field to learn the second dance, and then returned to the field in groups of eight to be judged on the dance they had learned - all within the hour.

Round 3 canidates were announced by their numbers & girls took their spots back on the field to learn the third dance. Texans Cheerleader Megan W. taught the dance for the Draft Day hopefuls. Great talent got cut in the third round but only the best went on to Draft Day, where you will be able to vote on the girls so be sure to attend!
